So this is about a friend of mine. To protect her identity, I'll call her Kayla.
So Kayla and I have known each other for a long time. During the past few months, we've grown closer as friends. We're both separated and alienated from other people. We're both emo.
However, she is very depressed lately. She talks more and more about dark and suicidal thoughts. She's even more sad than usual. She has said things such as "there have been no suicides at our school yet, but I might be pushed over the edge soon".
She has developed an eating disorder. When I sit with her at lunch she doesn't eat. Not even salad. Nothing. She says nothing about being 'fat' (she's the most athletic girl I know) but she is starving herself.
She's even started cutting herself. And she lies to everyone about it. Even her family. She claims she slipped on ice, and enjoys it when people believe her. She has cut herself on her hand and her hip. She says she does it more and more often.
The thing is, she has explicitly told me to not tell anyone. She does not want her parents, our school, the teachers, etc. to know about this. I feel that I have an ethical requirement to betray her wishes if it means she gets better.
Needless to say, I am extremely worried about her. Self harm is an issue. I really want her health to improve and her to stop this detrimental behaviour. I'd really like it if some of you could pray for her because she is in deep trouble.
What can I do? What should I do? I am her only friend and I don't want her to be alone and hurt, both physically and mentally.
I've spoken with her, and tried to reason with her. She hasn't cut herself since yesterday (we're making progress) but she's still not eating. She claims the reason she's not eating is because her sister and others (she didn't name these 'others') are telling her she is fat. Since she has said she doesn't trust her family or our school, I'm going to try to take it to my parents or church.
